While holidaying in Thailand it is tempting to just relax on one of the beautiful beaches and soak up the sun or spend time in the colourful capital city of Bangkok. But while in this fascinating part of south east Asia it is well worth taking a tour or two, and this superb short three day trip up to the north of the country, where the mighty Mekong River flows through, will leave you with so many great memories.
Your adventure begins when you fly from Bangkok to Nakhon Phanom where you are met by one of our tour representatives and driven into the city. After settling into your hotel you are taken to visit some of the local highlights including Saint Anna Nong Saeng Church, the old Municipal Office Museum and Wat Okad Temple, on the banks of the Mekong River. Stop at Ho Chi Minh House, where the Communist leader lived for several years from 1923 before leading the war for Vietnamese Independence. Then have lunch at a city restaurant.
After breakfast, leave for Amphur Nawa district to visit the Red Lotus Sea, where millions of red and pink lotus flowers stretch out across a natural swamp lake, taking a boat trip to get close to this stunning water scape. Then discover traditional ways of farming at a village before having lunch at a local restaurant and driving on to Renu Nakhon to visit Wat Phra That Renu Nakhon Temple complex where you meet members of the Phu Thai community. Continue to Ubon Ratchathani and, on arrival, check-in to your resort hotel and relax before dinner.
Today you first visit Wat Sri Po Chai temple, which is surrounded by water, before cruising along the Mekong River to Sam Pan Bok, known as the Grand Canyon of Thailand. After a restaurant lunch continue to Pha Taem Historical Park and see lots of prehistoric cave paintings amid the beautiful wild flower covered sheer limestone cliffs. Then you travel back to Ratchathani and are dropped off at the airport to catch your short flight back to Bangkok where this fascinating tour comes to an end.
