You will glimpse the Asia of old – majestic history, ancient Buddhist culture, and a way of life that’s barely changed in centuries. We begin in Chiang Rai. From here we venture into Laos, traveling by slow boat along the Mekong River to Luang Prabang, one of Asia’s most magical destinations. Fly to the quiet Laotian capital of Vientiane and on to the graceful tree-lined boulevards and stunning royal relics of Phnom Penh. Your journey ends in Siem Reap, our base for visits to the magnificent temples of Angkor, including Angkor Wat itself, the world’s largest religious monument. An average level of fitness is required.

Included: 13 night tour with accommodation with breakfast, three lunches and one dinner, flights as specified, all road transport by air-conditioned vehicles (temple touring by tuk-tuk), all sightseeing as specified (excluding entrance fees), Western tour leader based on a minimum of seven travelers, local English-speaking guides throughout, arrival and departure transfers.

Day 1-2: Chiang Rai & the Golden Triangle

Arrive in Chiang Rai and transfer through mountainous Northern Thailand to the Golden Triangle, the mysterious region where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet. Spend time exploring the region’s hilltribe villages and a fascinating opium museum.
Stay 2 nights: Imperial Hotel

Day 3-4: Mekong River & Pakbeng

Arrive at Huay Xai on the Lao border and board our atmospheric wooden barge for a cruise down the Mekong. We break our journey at Pakbeng for an overnight stay in village where life has remained untouched for centuries. Enjoy an unforgettable day passing pristine forests, stopping at the Cave of a Thousand Buddhas and dining on the deck of our boat. Arrive in the afternoon at fabled Luang Prabang.

Day 4-6: Luang Prabang

We spend time exploring one of Asia’s most charismatic and unspoiled destinations. Visit some of the many beautiful temples for which this World Heritage site is known as well as exploring the National Museum. See more of rural Laos with a trip to the picturesque Kuang Si waterfalls and participate in a fun cookery class. Witness one of Asia’s most unforgettable sites with an early morning trip to see orange-robed monks collecting alms from local people.
Stay 3 nights: Sala Prabang

Day 7-8: Vientiane

We take a short flight to Vientiane, Asia’s most laid-back capital. We visit golden-spired That Luang, the ancient Wat Sisaket with its thousands of Buddha images and the Laotian equivalent of the Arc de Triomphe, the Patuxai monument. Venture into the Revolutionary Museum for an informative insight into the history of little known Laos and spend time soaking up the relaxed atmosphere in this pleasant Mekong city.

Day 9-10: Phnom Penh

Fly the short distance to Phnom Penh and transfer to your hotel. In the early afternoon we begin a tour of the city with an orientation of its layout and visits to Wat Phnom and the central market. The following day we contrast the impressive Silver Pagoda and the National Museum, with the chilling Tuol Sleng Museum and the Killing Fields. After a dusk cyclo tour you will have free time to explore the waterside ambience, colonial architecture, and fine restaurants of this riverside town.

Day 11-12: Siem Reap and the Temples of Angkor

We fly to Siem Reap, gateway to the great temples of Angkor, one of mankind’s most inspiring sights. Begin our discoveries with a visit to the of the fortified city of Angkor Thom, and the eerie Bayon. On the evening of our arrival in Siem Reap we venture into the grounds of magnificent Angkor Wat, the centrepiece attraction of the Angkor complex and a highlight of every visitor’s stay in Cambodia.

Day 13-14: Outlying temples

Rise early for a return sunrise visit to Angkor Wat, and discover jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm temple. We also set out on a dusk cruise of the ecological marvel, Lake Tonle Sap, and end our time in Siem Reap with a visit to some special outer temples, and free time in the quaint colonial town of Siem Reap. End your journey with a departure transfer to the airport.
