You'll spend today exploring Hakone. You may like to take a short hike along what remains of the old Tokaido highway, which used to be the main road linking Edo (modern-day Tokyo) with Kyoto and Osaka. Afterwards you'll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Today you have a full day at leisure to explore the city, with your tour leader to advise and help plan an itinerary. Be sure to visit some temples and shrines, such as the exquisite hilltop Kiyomizu-dera or the Golden Pavilion, and spend some time relaxing in one of Kyoto's many Zen gardens.
Today is your chance to take an excursion. You'll be given a rail pass which allows you to travel to the many nearby attractions, including Hiroshima, Himeji Castle, Nara and Kanazawa, which boasts the gorgeous garden of Kenrokuen.
You'll take the Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed train back to Tokyo today for your final day in the capital, where you'll have time for some more sightseeing and to stock up on souvenirs and gifts. This evening you'll enjoy a farewell dinner with your travelling companions.
