The Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania is unique as its physical protection from man has resulted in a natural beauty that ranks it among the most pristine wilderness areas on earth. On this two day tour you will see just why the crater has been declared a World Heritage Site. It is the largest intact crater in the world and on its floor grassland blends with swamps, lakes, rivers, woodland and mountains . . . all a haven for wildlife, including the greatest predator population in Africa. The volcanic crater is jam packed with animals, including all the big game, and is the last refuge for the rare black rhino.
Your safari tour begins with lunch in Arusha town before beginning the drive to Ngorogoro Conservation area. Look out for wildlife on the way and when you get to the Serena Safari Lodge time to relax before taking an evening game drive with a good chance of seeing many animals that become active after the heat of the day.
Today you will descend 2,000 feet to the bottom of the crater for a half day tour. Explore the forest areas that are honme to monkeys and elephant, the lake area where you may see flamingos and the open savannah where the lions hunt for food. After lunch at the lodge you are driven back to Arusha to continue your African holiday or begin your journey home.
