Experience the elegance of rail travel on one of the world's most luxurious trains. Rovos Rail combines the opulence of pre-war travel with subtle modern innovations and on this three day journey you will see the splendour of KwaZulu Natal, go on safari and enjoy a battlefields tour with a world class historian. Your accommodation is in air-conditioned suites with exquisite wood panelling and period Edwardian features, the bathrooms combine original fittings with modern technology and the Observation car allows you to watch the unfolding scenery of the great interior of South Africa from a fascinating perspective.
The train leaves Pretoria's Capital Park Station travelling towards Centurion. Enjoy lunch as you cross the Highveld heading towards Ladysmith. Watch the South African landscape slip by from the comfort of your luxurious suite or the Observation car. Dinner is served later in the dining car.
After breakfast the train arrives at Elandslaagte. Go for an early game drive in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve with a chance to see the Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo. Travel on to Ladysmith where you have a choice of excursions. Either go on another safari in the Spionkop Game Reserve or visit the Spionkop battlefields for an escorted tour. Dinner is served later in the dining car.
Today you leave Ladysmith and travel down the escarpment stopping at Lions River to see the famous Ardmore Ceramics gallery and a dressage display. Then continue a steady descent through the Valley of 1,000 hills and the scenic landscape through Pietermaritzburg arriving at Durban where the memorable journey ends. Here you can continue your South African adventure or prepare for the journey home.
