West Coast & Winelands Tour

Description

What better way to get a real flavour of South Africa than on this five day West Coast and Winelands tour. Beginning and ending in Cape Town you will visit so many places of interest as you travel between some of the best wineries in the country and stay at farmhouses and hotels along the way. It's not only wine buffs who will enjoy this tour which makes a great add on to any longer holiday in the Rainbow Nation.

Day 1
Cape Town

Your tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel in Cape Town to travel north along the national highway into the Cape West Coast region - an almost undiscovered treasure trove of unspoilt beaches, incredible mountain ranges, rich geographical diversity, and the most astounding carpet of wild flowers in spring. First stop is in the lively rural village of Citrusdal, famous for its superior citrus fruits and products, and where the Goue Vallei wines are produced. Visit the Citrusdal Museum and learn about the first colonists and San inhabitants in the area.

Day 2
West Coast

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading to Paternoster, which means "Our Father" and derives its name from the prayers of ship-wrecked Portuguese sailors. Visit the Cape Columbine Lighthouse which was the country's last manned lighthouse which stands on a windswept coastline within the Columbine Nature Reserve. Return to Langebaan for a relaxed afternoon at leisure. During the months of August and September a visit to the Postberg Section of the West Coast National Park is included to view the colourful carpet of flowers.

Day 3
Langebaan

Today you begin by visiting the Khwa ttu San Culture and Education Centre which offers the unique experience of being introduced to the world of the the descendants of the first indigenous people of Southern Africa. This enjoyable and eye-opening event will stay with you for a long time. Continue to Groote Post Cellar for a wine tasting before heading to Bloubergstrand for lunch and the chance to take a picture postcard image of Table Mountain with the city and the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront visible from across the bay. Then travel to the Cape Wine Region of Franschhoek where you spend tonight.

Day 4
Franschoek

This morning after breakfast enjoy a unique and leisurely way to see the Franschhoek Valley as you journey through rolling vineyards in open-sided trams and an open-air tram-bus stopping in at some South Africa's oldest and most distinguished wine estates. Begin the experience with a visit to Hugenot Memorial, then on to Haut Cabriere, Chamonix, Rickety Bridge and ending up at Grande Provence. Lunch can be taken at any of these estates and in the evening there is an included last night dinner at the hotel.

Day 5
End of Tour

Today you leave Franschhoek and travel over the Helshoogte Pass to Stellenbosch. En route, stop at Boschendal Wine Estate for a tasting before spending some time in the town of Stellenboswch with its characteristic Cape Dutch buildings and historic landmarks such as 'Oom Salie se Winkel'. Continue to Clos Malverne for a second tasting of the day before heading to Paarl. Stop at the Taal Monument and Laborie Wine Estate before driving back to Cape Town where you will be dropped off either at your hotel or the airport.

BA's handling of firearms is a fiasco. An expensive fiasco. The protocol BA told you did not match what T3 security chose to do, and G4 [the outsource that manages firearms paperwork landside] stated that T3 security are out of step with T5 security AND head office. I paid an additional £315 to get my rifle onto BA059 and charging for the carriage of the ammunition case per a second firearm is a travesty. I am appalled at BA's lack of professionalism in central bookings, in T3 security and their T3 ticketing.

The flight from London to Cape Town via Doha is very long. I would not recommend this route to others, and I would not take it myself in the future

I think you should advise customers travelling on motorways in SA that there are tolls and GB credit cards are not accepted for payment. It caused us a major headache as we had to return to a services to get cash as we had used it all up.

Fantastic service from start to finish. Really appreciated the courtesy call before we flew. Thank you for the great service.

Flights were all great - can really recommend Lufthansa! The only thing I would say is that we do not recommend Bidvest Car Hire - the vehicle they gave us had absolutely non existent shock absorbers - very dangerous.

Everything so easy particularly when you need help because of age and infirmity. Many thanks particularly to Vinny.

Although your service cannot be faulted on our return flight no wheelchair assistance was booked from George to Cape Town and then no Halal meal was booked for my husband by BA from Cape Town to London. I don't believe DialAFlight is at fault but I think you should know how the airlines get it wrong.
