Heading out from Cape Town, this five-day circular tour takes you along South Africa's legendary Garden Route, through lush vineyards and orchards, along scenic mountain passes and into verdant forests. Along the way you'll get up close and personal with elephants and ostriches, and may have the chance to do a spot of whale-watching. This unforgettable trip makes an ideal add-on to a stay in Cape Town.
Your tour starts as you leave Cape Town this morning, travelling through the Hottentots-Holland Mountains via Sir Lowry's Pass, enjoying the spectacularly beautiful landscapes along the way. Your first stop is at the Hamilton Russell Vineyards, near Hermanus, for a tour and tasting. If you're visiting between June and December, you'll also stop in Hermanus to watch the whales from the cliff path, and perhaps take a whale-watching boat trip. If you're travelling outside whale season, you have the option of an eco-marine boat trip. After lunch you'll continue to Swellendam, the third-oldest settlement in South Africa, where you'll enjoy dinner at your hotel.
After a leisurely breakfast this morning you'll depart Swellendam and enjoy your scenic journey along the Garden Route via Mossel Bay. You'll stop at the millionaires' playground of Plettenberg Bay for lunch and a stroll along the white sandy beaches, before checking into your accommodation in the afternoon.
After breakfast, you'll have the chance for some unforgettable encounters at the local Elephant Sanctuary, where you'll be able to touch, feed and photograph the elephants. After lunch, you'll head to the stunning Tsitsikamma National Park, where you'll stroll along the suspension bridge across the Storms River to enjoy the incredible views. Afterwards you'll have time at leisure to explore the town of Plettenberg Bay, before returning to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
This morning you'll depart from Plettenberg Bay and head to the attractive town of Knysna, situated on the side of a lagoon. From here you'll take a ferry across the lagoon to Featherbed Nature Reserve, for an optional nature walk before a delicious al fresco lunch. You'll then return to the mainland and continue on to Oudtshoorn, where you'll visit an ostrich farm before checking into your accommodation, where you'll enjoy dinner.
This morning you'll visit the awe-inspiring Cango Caves, one of the natural wonders of the world, before travelling along the famous Route 62 to Cape Town. Along the way you can relax and enjoy the spectacularly colourful, and ever-changing, views of mountains, rivers, vineyards and orchards. You'll stop for lunch before continuing to Cape Town, where your tour comes to an end as you're dropped off in the early evening at Cape Town International Airport or your hotel.
