After a morning at leisure, you'll be collected from your hotel this afternoon for a tour of this vibrant city. Weather permitting, you'll begin at Table Mountain, before heading back into the city itself to visit the Company Gardens, the SA Museum, the Castle of Good Hope and the vibrant flea market at Greenmarket Square before returning to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

Today you'll enjoy a full-day Cape Point and Peninsula tour. You'll travel along the Atlantic Seaboard via Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay, stopping at a Llandudno look-out point before continuing to Hout Bay, a picturesque coastal village with magnificent mountain views, where you can take an optional boat trip to Seal Island. From here you'll continue via Chapman's Peak, one of the world's most breathtaking coastal drives, to Cape Point and the Good Hope Nature Reserve. After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll continue to the historic village of Simon's Town, which boasts charming Victorian architecture and a large penguin colony at the beautiful Boulders Beach. Finally you'll visit the lush Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, before returning to your hotel.

You'll spend today exploring the Cape Winelands, travelling through magnificent mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads to Stellenbosch for your first wine tasting of the day. Next you'll travel over the Helshoogte Pass to the town of Franschhoek, known as the Gourmet Capital of South Africa, for another wine tasting and lunch at one of the town's many award-winning restaurants. Time permitting, you'll enjoy a final wine-tasting at a Paarl-region estate before heading back to Cape Town.

You'll visit the Ghandi Memorial to see how art is being used to revitalise the inner city, and enjoy the bird's-eye views from the top of the Carlton Centre. You have the evening at leisure.

Day 10

This morning you'll enjoy a half-day tour of Soweto, the cluster of townships synonymous with the struggle against the apartheid regime. After touring some of the key historical sites you'll enjoy lunch at a township tavern before spending the afternoon exploring the excellent Apartheid Museum.

Day 11
Johannesburg to Mpumalanga

This morning you'll depart Johannesburg for Mpumalanga, on South Africa's eastern border (its name means "Land of the Rising Sun"). I would have liked more detail about the Elephant House accommodation (Stable Cottage). I appreciate that the style goes with the area and access to Addo National Park but if given the choice I would have opted for an upgrade. However, overall this was a very memorable trip and the Safari at Pumba Lodge far surpassed our expectations.
