Blue is the colour if you are making the memorable train journey between Cape Town and Pretoria in South Africa. High teas, elegant jacket and tie dinners and the uncanny feeling of being in a luxurious Victorian time warp await all those taking the famous Blue Train journey north from Cape Town. On the way you stop at the quaint old village of Matjiesfontein for a short tour . . . if you can bear to tear yourself away from the Blue Train's style and comfort. This trip makes a wonderful highlight of any holiday in South Africa.
After checking in to The Blue Train Lounge at Cape Town Station you will enjoy pre-departure snacks and drinks. Butlers usher guests to their suites and brunch is served as the train leaves the city. You arrive at Matjiesfontein in the afternoon seeing the Victorian buildings and original 19th century London lampposts before rejoing the train for high tea followed by an elegant dinner. Please note, trains running in winter (1 Jul - 31 Aug) may be delayed due to speed restrictions in cold weather. This may affect some of the excursions normally included in the schedule, you will be informed by the train manager at the time of departure.
You have travelled in style from Cape Town seeing the Winelands and South African countryside slip by from the comfort of your Blue Train suite, but today this memorable journey comes to an end. Enjoy breakfast before the train pulls in to Pretoria Station and after your butler has helped you with your luggage continue to enjoy your South African holiday or prepare for your journey home. The train will arrive into Pretoria at around 1500.
