Gorillas Through the Mist

Description

Found on the equator and running along the edge of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, the stunning Virunga National Park is one of the world’s most extraordinary natural places, Africa’s oldest national park, and a world heritage site. It is also probably the best place in the world to get up close to the great apes and enjoy those unforgettable real life Gorillas in the Mist moments as you will discover on this short but memorable four day tour.

Day 1
Kigali to Virunga

Your adventure begins when you arrive in Kingali, the capital of Rwanda. You are met at the airport or at your hotel by one of our tour representatives who will drive you to the Virunga Conservation area. If time permits, you can visit the markets, villages and local communities on the way and meet the local people. Then relax and enjoy dinner at your lodge and discuss the exciting programme for the next two days.

Day 2
Virunga

After a morning briefing by the Volcanoes National Park's guides on how to behave in the forest and in the presence of mountain gorillas you enter the park for a gorilla trek which will take you until around midday depending on where you find them. Once the gorillas are located prepare for what is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. It can rain at a few minutes’ notice, so waterproof clothing is essential including zip lock bags for cameras and film. After the trek, lunch is served at the lodge and the rest of the day is free to relax or go exploring in the area.

Day 3
Virunga to Kigali

Another wonderful day spent with the rain forest gorillas. After breakfast a guide will take you on another trek to find them in the forest so have your cameras ready for once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities. The park was created in 1925 by King Albert of Belgium as the first national park on the continent of Africa. It was founded primarily to protect the mountain gorillas living in the forests of the Virunga Mountains but later expanded north to include the Rwindi Plains, Lake Edward and the Rwenzori Mountains. After the trek, lunch will be at your hotel and in the afternoon you return to Kigali for an overnight stay.

Day 4
Depart Kigali

After breakfast today you can either stay on in Kigali and experience life in the Rwandan capital or be taken to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey home. This wonderful Gorillas through the Mist tour makes a great add on to any holiday in Africa and can be combined with a number of other tours. One thing is certain, it will leave you with so many great memories.

Delighted with your firm from the very first phone call - so much better speaking to someone when booking long haul flights. Also liked the idea of being able to phone you from Africa if anything had gone wrong

Would never again use Ethiopian Airlines as an "assisted" passenger. Left on aircraft for over one hour due to non availability of wheelchair. Tipped upside down in wheelchair to climb escalator with handler's knee in my back to push me up escalator. Very rude handlers. An experience not to be repeated.

Turkish Airlines should use a bigger plane than a Boeing 737-800 on the leg from Istanbul to Kigali

Flight from Istanbul to Heathrow was poor - no inflight audio service at all

We discovered that our baggage allowance with Kenya Airways was lower traveling within Africa than traveling to/from Africa. Nearly had to pay considerable excess baggage fee. Might be worth pointing out to travellers.
