Le Meridien Tahiti

Le Meridien Tahiti 4 Star

from £188 per room night

Location

Sited on the edge of a glorious lagoon, surrounded by white sandy beaches, this luxurious, contemporary hotel combines glamour and Polynesian hospitality. It’s close to Papeete, Tahiti’s capital, so there’s plenty to see and do, whether your interests lean towards cultural, natural or shopping-based pursuits. The hotel runs a twice-daily shuttle ‘le truck’ into town. Faa’a Airport is just 15 minutes away by taxi.

Rooms

Guests can opt for a room, suite or thatched-roof overwater bungalow – all with the Le Méridien signature bed, and all with lagoon/garden views. The décor is best described as contemporary Polynesian and home comforts provided include a balcony/terrace, flatscreen satellite TV, iPod dock, air conditioning, modern bathroom, fridge and internet access. Some rooms also provide an Illy coffee machine, while the bungalows equip you with snorkelling gear. On the top floor you’ll find the panoramic rooms – which offer all-round views you’ll never forget.

Activities

It’s easy to take a trip into Papeete, with its shopping and nightlife, but there’s plenty to do in and around the hotel. As well as a sand-bottomed pool and a range of sports and watersports – everything from kayaking, snorkelling, jet-skiing, paragliding and aquaerobics to ping-pong and beach volleyball – one interesting feature is L’Atelier des Artistes. In this creative space, artists – both local and from farther afield – work and display their art, and guests themselves can get involved and learn new techniques. If cooking’s more your thing, you can put your talents to the test at L’Atelier du Chef, offering a range of small classes on, for example, Polynesian dishes. Plus, the Friday night Polynesian show is not to be missed.

Dining

.The hotel’s gourmet restaurant, Le Carré, provides delicious food in a romantic setting, surrounded by lapping waves and to the accompaniment of birdsong. There’s also open-air dining with French and Polynesian specialities at La Plantation – site of the Friday night Polynesian show and buffet – and for drinks, L’Astrolabe Bar and the relaxed Pool Bar. Watch out for the hotel’s delicious signature éclairs – including Tahitian vanilla.

Spa

The hotel has its own specially designed wellness centre, where you can enhance your stay with a massage, facial, body treatment or full package – which could be the aptly named ‘Welcome to the Islands’ or ‘Sun Ritual’.
