Location

Known as the Art Deco capital of the world, the seaside city of Napier was destroyed by the 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake and rebuilt in the style of the time. Now it is famous for it’s jazz age architecture, Art Deco Weekend festival and for its beautifully preserved heritage buildings. Originally built in 1861 and destroyed by fire twice in its lifetime, the Art Deco Masonic Hotel has been rebuilt and preserved in pristine Art Décor form and makes a stunning bse form which to explore the city’s art and culture, and the surrounding countryside with its famous Hawkes Bay wineries, cycle trails, and to enjoy its Mediterranean climate.

Rooms

The Art Deco Masonic’s 42 glamorous refurbished rooms are all decorated and designed in contemporary Art Deco style – featuring polished wooden floors, period furniture and lavish soft furnishings, as well as all the mod cons you cod wish for. There is a mix of single, queen and double rooms, as well as suites and apartments - if you want to live like royalty, the Royal Suite being where Queen Elizabeth II stayed during her Coronation Tour of New Zealand. Twenty of the rooms open on to large Marine Parade balcony, which gives panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Facilities vary depending on the style of room but for starters there is air con, a desk, comfortable sofas, tea and coffee-making facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi and flat screen TV. The two-bedroom Apartment has its own sunny courtyard accessed via French doors from the spacious living room. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers, or freestanding bathtubs, and Molton Brown bath and body products.

Activities

The Masonic is perfectly placed for a day on the beach, soaking up the sun, or exploring the city and it’s many cultural attractions, including the Art Deco Festival in February, the Horse of the Year show in March and the Mission Estate concerts. If you’re feeling active, why not hire a bike and enjoy one of the three distinctive cycle trails, the Water Ride, landscapes Ride and the Winery ride, with 200km of sage and well-maintained pathways for all abilities and fitness levels. For wine aficionados, there is a whole programme of events set in stunning locations around Hawkes Bay with a chance to meet chefs, food producers and winemakers. There is a team of experts on hand to plan your celebration , whether it s wedding or a business banquet, in one of its beautiful locations.

Dining

The Masonic offers breakfast lunch and dinner in the relaxed surroundings of the award-winning Emporium Eatery & Bar, with menus based on local seasonal produce, as well as good range of local wines, craft and draft beers. For drinks and Kiwi-Irish fun, the Rose Irish pub attracts a broad crowd of locals and visitors, whether it’s for a quiet drink , a lively quiz or some live music.
