Gritti Palace 5 Star

from £366 per room night

Location

The 5-star Gritti Palace is a sophisticated Venetian hotel formerly the haunt of A-list writers and actors, that occupies a good setting on the Grand Canal, a short stroll form the Piazza San Marco, with views of the Santa Maria della Salute. The building dates back to 1525 when it was built as the first residence of the Gritti family, later to become home to the Vatican ambassadors of Venice. Following the Second World War, it was restored, opening at the Gritti Palace in 1948. It’s only 12km from the airport and 2km from the train station.

Rooms

Guests will get a taste for opulent Venetian life with a stay in the Gritti Palace’s 82 distinctive rooms furnished with Murano chandeliers, chatoyant drapes, marble tiles and original gold-trimmed ceilings. Deluxe rooms feature 40-inch Bang and Olufsen flat-screen TVs, views of the Rio dell Ostreghe and a balcony. Bathrooms feature the hotel’s signature Luxury Collection toiletries, as well as a robe and slippers. Guests in suites will enjoy a separate living area and sitting area, as well as a Bang and Olufsen docking station and Sony PlayStation.

Activities

Parents can take advantage of the hotel’s babysitting service, and explore Venice’s restaurant and bar scene. During the day, there’s plenty to keep tourists occupied for weeks in this romantic city, including the beautiful St Mark’s Square, St Mark’s Basilica and the Grand Canal to name a few, as well as many shopping opportunities. Golf fans might want to check out the Venice Golf Club a 35-minute water taxi ride from the hotel.

Dining

The Club del Doge restaurant offers guests a traditional Italian dishes that can be enjoyed with scenic vistas of the canal and city. It’s a formal affair, so a jacket is required in the evening. For something more casual, head to Bar Longhi for a drink amid stylish surroundings decorated in a traditional style with ahnd-sculptured mirrors, Murano glass appliqués, and a marble bar counter, along to some evening entertainment.

Spa

Guests can unwind in the hotel’s Acqua di Parma Blue Mediterraneo Spa, which includes a booth dedicated to foot baths, two suites that can be used individually or together, Turkish baths and a boutique selling Acqua di Parma products.
