De Rome Hotel Berlin 5 Star

from £269 per room night

Location

Sister hotel to London’s famous Brown’s Hotel and part of the Rocco Forte hotels chain, the Hotel de Rome is a stunning 5-star option with a fascinating history that exudes elegance and sophistication and a great location in central Berlin. It’s housed in a late 19th-century Renaissance-style building designed by architect Ludwig Heim that was briefly a cinema used during the Communist era, but mainly served as the Dresdner Bank’s headquarters until 1945. Its former cashier’s hall - now the hotel’s ballroom - contains the names of the bank’s four main offices: Dresden, Bremem, London and Berlin. It’s 20km from Berlin airport.

Rooms

The hotel’s classic rooms have high stucco ceilings and look out onto St Hedwig’s Cathedral, the Französische Strasse or the hotel’s tranquil inner courtyard. The combined bedroom and living space has a king-size bed or two single beds, a large work desk and a walk-in wardrobe. The spacious bathrooms are finished in marble and mosaics, with a bathtub and separate shower. There are also junior suites, some of which have a small balcony overlooking the courtyard or Bebelplatz, as well as a separate seating area, dressing area and walk-in wardrobe.

Activities

The hotel is perfectly placed to explore the city sights and is located just moments away from the boutiques of Friedrichstrasse. Nearby historical landmarks include Museum Island, the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and the Jewish Museum. A host of nightclubs, bars and restaurants are also within easy reach in the nearby quirky neighbourhood of Friedrichshain.

Dining

Enjoy some of the finest Italian flavours at the hotel’s elegant Parioli restaurant named after the district of Rome famous for its cuisine. It’s all served in sophisticated surroundings which includes cosy curved alcoves that make a nice spot for a celebratory dinner, business lunch or romantic evening. In the warmer months, guests can eat alfresco on the courtyard terrace. For a fun night out, join Berlin’s in-crowd at the hotel’s Bebel Bar and Velvet Room which serves premium cognacs, flavoured gins and local wines alongside live music. The Opera Court restaurant is set in what was once the lobby area of the Dresdner Bank, and serves traditional afternoon tea each day beneath its marble columns and gilt-edged skylights.
