Location

Head to Western Belize – just north of San Ignacio and close to the border with Guatemala – and you’ll find the intimate resort of Ka’ana. The surroundings are lush, the establishment stylish and the opportunities boundless: bespoke luxury is the theme here. You can even arrange to arrive at the hotel’s own helipad by helicopter from Belize International Airport – a journey that will give you an aerial view of sites such as 1000-Foot Falls and the Maya city of Xunantunich.

Rooms

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to have a butler, this is the place to find out as the one- and two-bedroom pool villas comes with its own personal butler. All of the accommodation – there are master, casita and balam suites as well as villas –offers the utmost in comfort and luxury. Each provides an outdoor seating area (some with a private garden and outdoor shower), French windows, original local artworks, high-quality bedlinen, plasma TV, iPod docking station, executive minibar, bathrobes, air-conditioning and ceiling fan. The villas also have a private plunge pool.

Activities

You’re encouraged to lie back and relax as much as you wish here, by your room or at the lovely salt-water pool, but there are endless opportunities for adventure – everything from excursions to Actun Tunichil Muknal cave, a sacred Mayan site, or the ruins of Tikal Maya in Guatemala to a snorkelling trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, a day’s cave tubing and ziplining or jaguar tracking in the jungle, a horseride to Xunantunich Maya ruins or an exploration of the Crystal Cave or the underground caverns at Barton Creek. You can even try out a Maya cooking class, using ancient methods over a traditional stove.

Dining

Delicious Belizean cuisine made from ingredients from the resort’s own organic garden is served at La Ceiba Restaurant, whose welcoming design is based on local farmhouses. You can also enjoy carefully mixed drinks and ‘pedasitos’ (small snacks) at The Wallace Bar & Lounge, or dip into the Ka’ana’s 1,000-bottle wine cellar – the biggest selection in western Belize. And if you fancy something different, the hotel is happy to prepare a customised dining experience, serving whatever you fancy in a number of locations (such as next to the fire pit, on the yoga deck or as part of a picnic lunch).

Spa

The resort spa uses only local, organic ingredients, and provides treatments such as a Mayan abdominal massage.
