Location

Tucked away in a corner of Lake Baroon, the Spicers Clovelly Estate boasts 22 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, set against a backdrop of forests and mountains. This tranquil escape, complete with rose gardens, orchard and neatly trimmed lawns, is a springboard for exploring an area of Queensland famed for its natural beauty. A national park, charming towns and numerous wineries vie for your attention, while the beaches and surf of the Sunshine Coast are within striking distance.

Rooms

An enticing place to stay, Spicers has opulent suites that provide the height of comfort and luxury. There’s also the French Cottage, a home from home that has elegant European furniture and three bedrooms should you be planning a group or family visit. With their wooden floors, Carrara marble bathrooms and king-sized beds, the individually designed Estate Suites are certainly well-appointed. They come with decks, gardens and terraces too. Or you may want to opt for the Spa Suites and Luxury Spa Suites, two further options that feature spa baths and bags of room to spread out and relax.

Activities

Head chef Cameron Matthews runs classes at Spicers’ cookery school, sharing some of the secrets that have helped earn him two Chef Hats. To delve further into the area’s gastronomic offering, you can also pay a visit to three wineries in the local area. Towns nearby include Eumundi, which is famous for its markets – promising not only fine food but also arts and crafts, jewellery and fashion. National parks such as Kondalilla Falls and Mapleton Falls are well worth a visit for their stunning natural beauty. Or just relax amid the gardens and enjoy a swim in the pool.

Dining

One of the highlights of a stay here has to be The Long Apron, the renowned restaurant ranked in the top 100 in Australia. Its European-influenced cuisine draws diners from far and wide, who come to feast on dishes that range from spanner crab with cottage cheese, lemon purée and peas, to roasted duck breast with beetroot, cherries, cocoa and fennel. The innovative twists and fresh ingredients – best experienced via the sumptuous tasting menu – are sure to leave you impressed.

Spa

After days spent exploring the hinterland or fabulous sights around the Sunshine Coast, you’ll want to retreat to a spa that renders you speechless. Spa Anise has a beautiful, European-style decor with marble and timber flooring that sums up the luxurious treatments offered here. Restore your ying and yang with a massage that targets aching muscles, or feel refreshed with a facial treatment. Or opt for a full-body MOT that combines deep-tissue massages with a facial and foot treatment.
