Location

If you love wine and you’re in need of some time out, Jacobs Creek Retreat is the place for you. This boutique hotel, which sits amid large, tranquil gardens, is aptly named as it provides the perfect excuse to retreat from the stress of everyday life. And when you’re ready to emerge, you’ll find yourself surrounded by some of the world’s most famous vineyards in the stunning Barossa Valley. The hotel is 5 minutes’ drive from the tourist town of Tanunda, and an hour from Adelaide Airport.

Rooms

Guests have a choice of rooms and suites. At the front of the gardens you’ll find the European-inspired studio suites, which have antique furnishings and a sunken bath. For split-level living, try the bluestone loft suite, which provides a king bedroom upstairs and private sitting room with Romanesque bathroom downstairs. Most spacious of all are the retreat suites, which have a separate lounge and dining area and an outside verandah or courtyard. Honeymooners may prefer the orchard room, set in the peach orchard and featuring antiques throughout , a four-poster bed, an open lounge and a luxurious bathroom with double shower and spa bath.

Activities

It’s all about relaxation here, so you may just fancy finding yourself a secluded spot in the gardens, perhaps a hammock, and chilling out. If you’re feeling more energetic, you can have a splash in the solar-heated infinity pool with spa bays. The Barossa Valley itself is not to be missed, with such famous names as Henschke, Penfolds, Grant Burge and, of course, Jacobs Creek. As well as the big names, there are lots of smaller, interesting local wineries to visit. The hotel can help to organise your itinerary, and you can also indulge in a spot of hot-air ballooning, a Daimler chauffeured tour, a trip by trike or a cycle adventure – whatever takes your fancy.

Dining

The hotel serves a special Barossa Breakfast in the pavilion and can supply a cheese tasting plate to enjoy in the gardens. It can also organise special wine tastings. Elsewhere, there are a number of top-quality Barossa restaurants nearby, and the hotel is happy to provide recommendations.

Spa

You can organise to have a massage or spa treatment in the comfort of your own room.
