5 hottest bars in Austin
Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark.

Bar 96
Sporty style
Developed as a sports-friendly bar (rather than simply a sports bar), Rainey Street’s Bar 96 is a relaxed venue with a cool, modern feel. As well as big-screen TVs showing the latest live sports events (not to mention the World Cup), there’s plenty to keep those less keen on sports entertained – from games and a grass area to picnic tables and a wraparound patio. The food truck is an added bonus, serving tasty snacks like sandwiches and tacos.

Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden
For hops and dogs
It’ll take more than one visit to get through the massive selection of beers here, including 101 different brews on tap. Arranged by style (think Amber & Malty, Light & Refreshing), it’s easy to find a beer to suit your taste. One of a host of bars along hip new Rainey Street, Banger’s also (unsurprisingly given the name) serves a host of sausage-based specials, from classic bangers and mash to chilli cheese dogs. And dogs themselves are welcome here too, having their own spacious kennel to kick back in.

Midnight Cowboy
Down on ‘Dirty Sixth’
Our favourite offering outside of the vibrant Rainey Street, Midnight Cowboy is the best hangout on well-known Sixth Street. Thanks to the prohibition-era theme, the only way to get into this hidden hangout is to make a reservation, when you’ll be given the buzzer code for the evening. But, if you’re passing and see the ‘vacancy’ sign illuminated, you’re in luck. Depending on your tipple, the mixologist might create a cocktail at your table, from a cart full of fresh ingredients. Potent drinks and fun aplenty.

Clive Bar
Coolest cocktails on the block
A classy bar with comfy seats and an upmarket feel, Clive Bar is the Rainey Street area’s best bet for cocktails. Sip on a Blood & Sand, knock back a Whiskey Daisy, or stick to the carefully selected wines and sit back on the outdoor patio through the afternoon and into the early hours. The bartenders are passionate about their craft and can guide you through the cocktail list. It’s no coincidence that ‘Clive’ rhymes with ‘Dive’ – but this is the most elegant dive bar in Austin!

5.
Bungalow
Making music
For some of the best live sounds, Bungalow is Rainey Street’s star. Sit outside this converted house and lap up guitar tunes in the sunshine, surrounded by all the ‘bar’ necessities – snacks and happy hour specials, as well as more than 20 beers on tap. Open every day from 4pm-2am, Bungalow is an all-day hangout with a welcoming feel that gives off the vibe of being at a summer party in a friend’s garden. An Austin oasis.
