Most of Oman lies on water and this is reflected by a rich seafaring history. Its intrepid seamen once explored the coast of east Africa as far south as Zanzibar. Nowadays though, oil provides the economic growth - and the country is modern and successful. It’s not all beaches though, high mountain ranges run parallel to the coast and their peaks are a favourite destination of locals, expatriates, and holidaymakers alike.
