The Last Word
The way to the next whisky bar
See Christchurch in its former glory at The Last Word, an exquisite whisky bar in historic New Regent Street, an array of Spanish Mission-style buildings from the 1930s. Boasting an impressive drinks selection, including hundreds of whiskys, inventive cocktails and other drinks, The Last Word is super cool, decked out in green and white, and decorated with retro furniture and a gallery of art. There’s also a great view of the street below, excellent for slow sipping and people watching.

The Hilltop Tavern
Rural Kiwi hospitality at its best
It’s not a cocktail bar for celebs – but, then, it doesn’t pretend to be. The Hilltop Tavern is Kiwi hospitality at its warmest, with stunning harbour views, wood-fired pizzas, great music and a superb selection of craft beer and cider. Their focus is on live music so keep an eye out for who’s playing on which nights. You’re bound to catch some popular acts like Paul Ubana Jones, The Eastern or The Unfaithful Ways. There’s even babysitters and sober transport home – the ideal spot for families!

Becks Southern Alehouse
The bar for every occasion
Sports lover? Winer and diner? Family man? It’s difficult to create a space where everyone can feel at home but Becks manages to pull it off in style. This uber-modern bar and restaurant prides itself on being all things to all people, with sufficient square footage to actually pull it off.
Check out their 12 foot flat-screens, indoor and outdoor entertainment areas (complete with fireplaces), massive range of beers, wines and spirits and delicious great-value menu. Above all, the atmosphere is relaxed and the service is warm. Bottoms up!

Revival Bar
Celebrate the rejuvenation of Christchurch
Christchurch is a different city since the earthquakes of 2010 – and nowhere is it more apparent than in the resilience and innovation of its local establishments. Revival is a funky new bar based on exactly that – plus just the right hint of nostalgia. With recycled materials used in all facets of the décor, including things like shipping containers rooms and suitcase chairs, everything at this bar gets a second life. It pulls in the thirsty with its creative drinks menu – and there’s even a hair salon for a snip with your sip!

The Wunderbar
Eccentric goes over the top
Wunderbar! We’ve found it! Unconventional Euro trash bars have never been so unashamedly fun! This bamboo bar with its sequined stools, doll head lamps and peculiar curios attracts an equally odd crowd of Christchurch locals and travellers. Don’t worry though, nobody bites! Perhaps it’s the amazing view, great live music scene, popular pool tables and no-nonsense menus which make it all very friendly. If you’re looking for a bar to be bored in, you’ve definitely come to the wrong place!
