5 hottest bars in Havana
Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark.
Vista al Golfo
For celebrity charm
Sit back on the sophisticated terrace at the historic Hotel Nacional (Havana’s most famous, celeb-filled venue in the 1950s) and stare out to sea. Old-world charm blends with creative and classic cocktails from a bartender with 30 years’ experience. One of the very best locations in Havana to enjoy a minty Mojito, cool Caipirisma or punchy pina colada, the bar is home to the city’s most stylish, so look out for famous faces while you soak up the views and scan snaps of stars who’ve stayed here.

El Floridita
Cuba’s most classic
The most hyped-up bar in Havana, thanks to its visits from writer Ernest Hemingway in the 1950s, El Floridita is also one of the oldest bars in the city. Cool, classy and popular with foreigners, it is known as ‘the cradle of the Daiquiri’, so you know what to order first! Sit at the bar with a Cuban cigar, listen to a live band and have your photo taken with the statue of Hemingway himself. This place is a slice of history, but you’ll find more tourists than locals hanging out here.

El Gato Tuerto
For the coolest cats
One of Havana’s most stylish bars, El Gato Tuerto was once a base for bohemian types and has only recently reopened after a 12-year closure. Now a sleek, sexy space interspersed with post-modern furniture and mirrored walls, it serves cool cocktails to a mix of young travellers and locals.
On the menu along with magnificent mojitos is live music, from old-school bolero to modern jazz. With its cosy, clubby feel, it’s best to show up early or book in advance.

La Bodeguita del Medio
Unmissable mojitos
Another Hemingway haunt, this is where the novelist made mojitos famous. Set up in 1942, the bar is scattered with trinkets squirrelled away over the years and star signatures have been scrawled over the walls, giving it a nostalgic vibe. Tourists and locals alike come here for an unaltered sense of old Cuba as well as the meanest mojitos in Havana, chilling out in the upstairs and downstairs bars while snacking on authentic cuisine.

Café Cantante Mi Habana
A salsa sensation
A little further off the tourist track, Café Cantante is a dancer’s and cocktail-drinker’s dream. Cubans and travellers of all ages come here to learn how to salsa, let go to nightly live music from top bands and sip sensational cocktails like mojitos and Cuba libres. As the night goes on, this café area within the National Theatre fills up with a crowd of fashionistas and local musicians who get down to Cuban beats until the early hours.
