Rio Favela Tour

Favela favourite

When staying in Rio it is always worth seeing another side of the city that many visitors miss. On this tour you are picked up from your hotel and taken up Sao Clemente road to see the favela of Santa Marta, located on Dona Marta Hill, which is officially part of the neighbourhood of Botafogo. From there take an elevator to the top of Dona Marta Hill and stop at the Michael Jackson Statue.

The community here is famous for having been the locale of a Michael Jackson music video, where there now sits a statue of the pop star. The statue, in Beco do Curio, stands next to the Church of the Assembly of God, on the terrace of the favela’s House of Culture. After touring the streets of Santa Marta, you stop at the resident's association then return to your hotel past the Rodrigo de Freitas Lake.

Samba Samba with BBQ Dinner

Samba and supper

No other music is more Brazilian than samba, and no other samba is more authentic than that found at one of Rio's famous samba schools. Visit one these "escolas de samba" as they open their dance floors for "rehearsals" and enjoy a combination of a party and a performance as the colourful dancers prepare for the coming of Carnival.

There is nothing quite like a Brazilian samba and the shows display the passion the dancers have for the music and rhythms. The drums and swaying crowds at the school will have you on your feet in no time at all. This visit begins with dinner at a typical barbecue restaurant for a non-stop feast of Brazilian meats, salads, vegetables and drinks.
