Marco Polo Café
Ancient and exotic
Known as Rhodes’ finest restaurant, the Marco Polo Café is part of the lavish Marco Polo Mansion in the Turkish Quarter of Rhodes Town. Step back into imperial times and wonder at the exotic flowers in the courtyard garden while enjoying an intimate dinner overlooking the Old Town. The seasonally changing menu often focusses on seafood – try tuna with sesame in orange, or grouper souvlaki – but lamb and pork also feature, followed by tempting desserts such as semi freddo, tiramisu and panna cotta.

For family fare
Set in the main square in Lindos and founded in 1933, Mavrikos is a family-run institution in Rhodes. Blending the traditional recipes of Grandpa Mavrikos with the modern twists of current renowned chef Dimitris Mavrikos, the menu features dishes like grilled octopus, cured tuna with fennel, cuttlefish-ink risotto, broad beans in carob syrup and lamb’s liver with chilli. A shaded outdoor courtyard combines with indoor seating, so diners can choose where to sample the fairly pricey food and Greek wine list.

Kyma Beach Restaurant
Sunsets and scenery
When it comes to seaside dining, Kyma Beach Restaurant leads the way. Gaze across the Aegean with unparalleled views and dine on superb, classic Greek dishes like lamb kleftiko and marinated chicken while the sand tickles your toes. Slightly more expensive than other venues in the Pefkos area, it’s worth shelling out for and the range of cool cocktails and chilled beers makes it all the more appealing.

Sightseeing from your seat
With its unique setting at the base of the acropolis at Lindos, Melenos Lindos is a stunning, medieval-style tented rooftop restaurant located within the hotel of the same name. Inimitable views over the Aegean and the two natural harbours, as well as the historic acropolis, combine with a menu of fine Greek food with an Asian influence. Ingredients are fresh, many being home-grown, while the beverage and wine list is impressive too.

For the freshest fish
Although best known as a fish restaurant thanks to its location near the waterfront in the old Jewish Quarter of Rhodes Town, Nireas serves a whole range of delectable dishes. Seafood does steal the show though, with creations such as Symi shrimp, mussels saganaki and a crispy octopus salad. Tucked away from any crowds and adorned by the shade of a leafy canopy, it is the perfect spot for lunch, while dinner is a romantic affair within the candlelit indoor alcoves.
