Boukari Beach
Coastal cuisine
Set on the seaside of Corfu’s south-east coast, Boukari Beach is a traditional seafood taverna serving fresh fish, garlic scampi and steamed mussels - not to mention fresh lobster in a special Corfu sauce, all prepared personally by Mama Vlachopoulos. Prices are competitive, the wines are moreish and there’s even an attached family-run hotel if you want to stay the night. Stunning sea views by day make way for memorable sunsets and dining under the stars.

Off the tourist trail
For traditional Greek food with the locals, head to the very un-touristy Bakalogatos on the outskirts of Corfu Town. A hidden jewel that serves delicious meze and vegetarian specials like cheese-stuffed peppers, as well as a few fish and pork dishes, it offers ultra-friendly service. Everything is locally sourced, even the wines and beers. A true alternative to the island’s tried and tested tourist traps.

Father and son Nikos and Kostas Bellos cook up dishes like sardine bourdéto, fresh anchovies and tender octopus, with a side of tempting white wine from Neméa. Homemade puddings like cheesecake are not to be missed – if you still have room!

Spiros & Vasilis
French fancy
Take a break from Greek goodies and venture 10 minutes outside of Corfu Town for fine French cuisine at Spiros & Vasilis. Succulent steaks melt in the mouth, accompanied by crispy fries, and can be enjoyed in the idyllic garden surroundings. Traditional French starters such as frogs’ legs and mussels complement classic desserts like sweet crepes and crème caramel.
This is one of the island’s more expensive dining options but it’s worth the credit card bill.
