The Olympics of food
Here’s a restaurant going for gold! Situated near the venue of the first modern Olympics, Spondi performs feats of culinary athleticism unmatched, perhaps, anywhere in the capital. With two Michelin Stars already under its belt, and hints of a third, Spondi enjoys its view from the top of the podium. Expect modern French cuisine, with a seasonal menu, exquisite flavours, creative exoticism and presentation which earns a perfect 10.

Lamb chops up the competition
Everyone knows how Greeks feel about lamb. It is no ordinary meat, it is a cut above, succulent and juicy - and Athens is packed with restaurants which serve it up at its finest. The very best of these is Karavatis, a legendary establishment, with all the trademarks of an old Athenian taverna: wine barrels on the walls, old men playing guitar, white washed garden and heaps of the most delicious lamb you’ll ever taste.

Greek fusion with heavenly views
Situated right on the beautiful Aegean Sea, with Athens’ gloriously barmy weather, you couldn’t ask for a more well-appointed restaurant. Kohylia offers its lucky patrons a fusion of many styles: Greek, Italian, French and Polynesian. With a sun setting into sparkling waters, prepare yourself for a sensual treat: from flavours to aromas, from views to the sound of waves and touch of breeze on your skin. This is pure heaven!

The best fish in the sea
Whoever said, “There’s always more fish in the sea”, clearly hadn’t been to Varoulko, Athens’ finest, favourite seafood restaurant. Shoals of foodies swim in to savour the chef’s Michelin Star rated cuisine, a degustation menu to die for, with creations like bream fillet sautéed on fine slices of bread, or grouper rissoles with barbecue sauce. Add a wine list with the best liquids above the waves, and you’ve found the one for you.

For locals by locals
Sometimes you don’t want to dine in white linen establishments with rooftop views of the Acropolis. Sometimes, you want to line up with locals in a rough-and-ready joint, to enjoy, what Athenians call, the best souvlaki in town. The menu isn’t large, the place is jammed but, boy, is the food good, with waiters serving diners, five plates stacked up each arm, or fanning the coals with hairdryers. Silver service, it aint. Gold standard food, it is!
