5 hottest bars in Berlin
Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark.
Nothing says Berlin like beer garden
Enjoy your Berlin summers with the locals in the city’s oldest beer garden, established in 1837. Open April to September, it’s the place to soak up the rays, people watch, drink steins and wolf down sausages and pretzels. With picnic tables set under chestnut trees, the Prater Garten is huge, with crowds of up to 600 swelling the chatter. There’s a great selection of beer, including the satisfying Prater Pils, the home-brewed special!

Prohibition America in Germany
It’s not often you find a bar which takes its name from a violent Missouri pimp. Even more so, when said bar is in Germany! Yet this vaudeville establishment takes its cues from that era, with folk songs, saloon lamps, Victorian wallpaper and a mechanical till. The scene is rockabilly greaser (fortunately, none violent like the eponymous pimp) so don’t worry. Just enjoy the themed cocktails like the Julep with bourbon, mint and cherries.

What decadence lies beyond it?
No, the bar doesn’t, as most people imagine, take its name from the Shakin’ Stevens song but rather, far more tittilatingly, from America’s first hard-core porn movie. And behind this green door, (yes, the bar actually has one), lies a gorgeously 1970’s retro interior that wouldn’t look out of place in a skin flick. But this popular Schöneberg cocktail bar is more renowned for its vibe and quality drinks, in particular its encyclopaedic catalogue of cocktails.

Nathanja und Heinrich
Vintage on tap
Like something out of a Golden Age Europe gone by, Nathanja und Heinrich is the most inviting and comfortable bar in Weserstrasse. With three high-ceilinged rooms filled with vintage chairs, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a range of craft beers, decent bourbon, quality cocktails and even the odd cake to soak up the fumes. It’s a large bar so never feels crowded; rather just right, the perfect blend of then and now.

Get scandalous on the dance floor
The world applauds (and is secretly jealous) of Berlin’s clubbing scene. Watergate is one of its finest dance-until-dawn establishments. With internationally renowned DJ’s pumping out tunes as relentlessly as smoke machines do their job, this is a premier home of house, break-beat and drum ’n bass. The décor is minimalist, spread over two floors on the River Spree. And the crowd are serious clubbers. Come join them!
