The edge of heaven

1. Sheer Rocks

The edge of heaven

Our favourite place to eat

In our opinion the best of the hotel restaurants in Antigua, Sheer Rocks at Cocobay Resort has it all – a sensuous and secluded cliff-side setting ideal for romantic dinners, four-poster day beds around infinity pools for long lunches and, most of all, creative Mediterranean cuisine. From blackened wahoo to braised beef, a wide-ranging wine list and chilled cocktails, there’s nothing missing from this exceptional experience.

A firm favourite

2. Catherine’s Café

A firm favourite

Having just relocated to English Harbour’s Pigeon Beach, this charming café is still drawing customers back time and again. Now set in an airy, open Caribbean beach house with comfy loungers and private sunbeds, it still serves the same stunning dishes that have been its speciality for 18 years. Welcoming everyone from families to work colleagues, it offers fine French fare including moules marinieres and tarte tatin, plus creative cocktails, a French wine list, tempting tapas and live jazz.

Rum-tastic

3. Papa Zouk

Rum-tastic

Classic Caribbean cuisine served in a cool island-style hangout is what you’ll find at Papa Zouk. This colourful venue is characterised by its collection of more than 250 varieties of rum, its dangerously powerful punch and the fun of zouk music - not forgetting the fabulous food, which includes seafood specials such as Barbudan snapper and butterfish prepared in an array of styles. Laid-back yet lively, this is the place to go for a true taste of Antigua.

Ooh la la!

4. Le Bistro

Ooh la la!

Pricey but pitching large portions, Le Bistro is an Antiguan institution. With its alluring atmosphere in a picturesque villa and across a plant-filled terrace on Hodges Bay, this renowned restaurant is rich in romance, too. Serving French classics with a Caribbean flair, favourites include the bouillabaisse of fish, filet mignon and daily desserts. Top it all off with an international wine list and the finest French Champagnes.

Brilliant on a budget

5. Pizzas in Paradise

Brilliant on a budget

The top local hotspot and meeting point, Pizzas in Paradise is a long-established all-day eatery that pretty much lives up to its name. The cheerful disposition of the staff and the brightness of the building make for a lively quayside venue that serves well-loved pizzas as well as salads, burgers and local dishes like king fish and plantains, followed by a fiendish chocolate rum cake. A great choice that doesn’t break the budget or compromise on quality.
