5 hottest bars in Perth

Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark

Old. New. That’s why we love it.

1. The Melbourne

Old. New. That’s why we love it.

Our all-time favourite bar

We admit. Odd name for a bar thousands of miles from its namesake but The Melbourne is an institution on the Perth scene and has been for two centuries. It’s old school and unpretentious, though it’s evolved considerably since its founding days in the city’s Gold Rush. The drawcard here is its huge popularity amongst all, from pensioners to the young and up-coming. Oh, and let’s not forget the beer. In true pub fashion, The Melbourne pulls a mean pint, with 15 frothy offerings on tap, from local crafts to global lagers.

The bar with the soul of a tiger

2. Tiger Lil’s

The bar with the soul of a tiger

Every colour of Asia – and then some! Tiger Lil’s is the brightest feature on the Perth drinking circuit. A kaleidoscopic backdrop of lanterns, a laughing Buddha and a tattooed lady are all on hand to give your entrance the dazzle it deserves. Cocktails are its speciality so sip a Baby-San, made with passionfruit vodka, cranberry juice and Cointreau. And don’t worry if your taste runs more to the hop or the vine, you’ll also find a great an Aussie/ French wine list and beer selection. Try Fridays for live drums and DJ’s on funk.

3. The Brass Monkey

The Spoilt for Choice drinking hole

Meet The Brass Monkey, a Perth icon and the most photographed hotel in Western Australia. You’ll know why when you see it lit up at night, shining its welcome to the city’s drinkers. What’s tops about this tippling spot is its sheer variety. There’s an upstairs bar and balcony, a sports bar, a roof-top bar, three separate areas in the main bar, a lounge and even a walk-in bottle shop! Seems the Aussies don’t do things in halves. Don’t leave without sampling its flagship brew, Brass Monkey Stout, which has garnered 20 medals from around the world!

C stands for classy, curvy and cool

4. The C Lounge

C stands for classy, curvy and cool

Forget the idea of “C” meaning average, this bar stands for anything but. Slowly revolving on the 33rd floor, not only does it offer outstanding views of the city, the river and the mountain ranges, but inside the “C”, it’s classy and cool. The crowd is young, sexy and hip - and martinis and Manhattan’s are the orders of the night. If your tastes run to Cuba, pop into the ventilated Cigar Lounge for a post-prandial Cohiba and Cognac – with cutting edge club vibes and the coolest crowd.

Do your bit for the environment. Have a drink.

5. Greenhouse

Do your bit for the environment. Have a drink.

The world’s going green – and this is one bar that won’t be left behind. Totally unique and distinctive, the building’s exterior walls are covered in strawberry plants and, inside, the bar it’s all environmental sustainability. Think recycled timber and bales of straw. But just because it’s green doesn’t mean it doesn’t know a thing or two about inventive cocktails. Try Recipe #14, a heady mix of cinnamon-infused vodka, apple juice, lime juice, spiced sugar, egg white, and ginger beer, all of them freshly pressed and, of course, all ingredients are locally and seasonally sourced.
