Water Puppet Show

Lots of strings attached!

There are so many must-do things while visiting the country, and watching a performance of Hanoi's famed Water Puppets is certainly one of them. In the evening you will be met at your hotel by a guide and driven to the Water Puppet theatre in downtown Hanoi. Over 10 centuries old, the art of water puppetry first appeared in the Ly dynasty between 1010 and 1225.

It originated in the Red River Delta area and originally depicted the daily life of villagers including farming, fishing, romance and children playing. These days the performances have evolved to also include ancient legends, myths and history. The performance runs for approximately 50 minutes, after which you will be met by your guide and taken back to your hotel.

Secrets of the tunnels

Experience the world of the Cu Chi freedom fighters with a visit to their famous tunnel system and meet a local family and gain an insight into life, past and present. Leaving the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City behind, journey two and an half hours west towards the Cambodian border bound for the Cu Chi Tunnels. Before arriving at the tunnels meet a local family and hear about their lives, culture and customs.

The Cu Chi tunnels were built during the Indochina conflict. This network of more than 175 miles of tunnels became legendary during the 1960's when they played a vital part in the American War, allowing the Viet Cong to control a large rural area close to Ho Chi Minh City. In their heyday, they were functioning underground cities with hospitals, schools, kitchens and sleeping quarters. Today the Vietnamese government have preserved approximately 75 kilometres of the tunnels as a memorial park, in some areas tunnels have been widened and low powered lights installed so that western tourists can now fit through the complex. Our local guide will take us on a fascinating trip around the Cu Chi Tunnels where we learn more about the conditions the people lived in, the hardships they faced and the amazing ingenuity employed to maintain life in the tunnels.
