An endless list of paradise islands promising pristine beaches, hot sunshine and the ultimate tropical holiday vibe, the Caribbean is an obvious choice for celebrities wanting a relaxing holiday abroad. From prestigious royalty needing the upmost privacy (Kate and Wills) to La La Land lovelies seeking the perfect backdrop for another photo-opportunity (Rhianna and Kim Kardashian), there is a place for every kind of famous face – whether you’re wanting an island that shies away from the spotlight or basks in it!
Starting at the top, Mustique is the king (or queen) of the Caribbean. It’s where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their last proper holiday before baby George arrived, and was a popular haunt of the late Princess Margaret. Big stars including Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Elton John also love it. However, if you think you’ll have to reach for the stars to afford to stay somewhere here, you’re sweetly mistaken! Some hotels, such as the five-star Cotton House offer decent rates and enticing Caribbean holiday offers such as free nights.
The Bahamas have also long been a Mecca for the rich and famous and the location for several Bond films. If you’re seeking your very own secret agent, head to the One&Only Ocean Club, which was the setting for Casino Royale and you can recreate Daniel Craig’s famous beach scene (remember the tiny blue swimming trunks?). What’s more, it’s also home to the original Bond guy, actor Sean Connery! He has a house in Lyford Cay, a gated estate outside Nassau – as does Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis. Model Elle Macpherson, actor Johnny Depp and golfer Tiger Woods are also regulars to the Bahamas shores.
Tiger Woods must really love the Caribbean (well it is home to plenty of golf courses), as he also famously got married in the Caribbean, in the clubhouse at Sandy Lane on the west coast of Barbados. And it’s here where you’ll really see the highest concentration of celebs. Simon Cowell and Mariah Carey live here and of course, it’s Rhianna’s home turf! However, while the west coast is full to the rafters with the rich and famous, the rugged, less-visited east coast holds some surprises too. Quieter, discreet celebrities such as Robert Plant live here, happily paparazzi-free!
