Washington D.C is gearing up to celebrate the return of spring too, with the National Cherry Blossom Festival coming up in March. Over the space of three weeks the city will turn pastel pink as over 3,000 cherry blossom tress bloom and springtime celebrations take place on the streets and in the parks. Discover the history behind the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which celebrates the 3,020 cherry blossom trees which were given to the capital as a gift of friendship from Japan back in 1912. You’ll find more than just pale pink petals scattered across the city in spring, with more than 200 international cultural performances expected to take place, as well as over 90 other special events. From the 20th March through to the 13th April, D.C will pay homage to Japanese culture, as well as the city’s own rich and unique heritage with fireworks, food stalls and the famous kite flying festival.
