With the film ‘Grace of Monaco’, a fairytale story of Hollywood and Royalty, launching at the Cannes Film Festival this month, and the Monaco Grand Prix just around the corner, the spotlight is shining brightly on the jet set Principality this summer.
Feel compelled to visit this spectacular stretch of the Riviera this year? Here are a few handpicked suggestions:
One of this summer’s must-see films, ‘Grace of Monaco’, follows the life of former Hollywood actress Grace Kelly after she married Monaco’s Prince Rainier in the late 1950s. Starring Nicole Kidman, this hot new film is sure to entice, with plenty of stunning shots of the dazzling Principality, with its billionaire yachts and famous casino. You’ll recognise the casino from one or two Bond films.
Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix
Each year Monte Carlo hosts one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world. The Principality’s picturesque circuit with its curvy city streets and the famous harbour strip is synonymous with excitement and prestige. Don’t worry if you’ve left it too late for tickets this year (23-25 May), head to the Hotel Columbus, Monte Carlo, owned by former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and you’ll have everything on hand for a chic retreat.
Fine dining at Nobu
You’ll find renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s newest and most exclusive culinary venture in the Fairmont Monte Carlo Hotel. With an enviable location between the legendary Casino of Monte Carlo and the glistening Mediterranean Sea, combined with a mouth-watering menu featuring Japanese and South American influences, this is one place not to be missed.
Harbourside charm at Yacht Club de Monaco
The place to see and be seen, Monaco’s distinguished yacht club has been at the centre of the boating world for 60 years. The club’s sleek new building, linked by an impressive spiral staircase and designed by British architect Lord Norman Foster will open in June on Quai Louis II. Expect a new nautical hub and a series of terraces with views of the port, sea and Formula 1 Grand Prix Circuit. Hire a Riva motor launch to add to the film-star feeling and cruise along the coast as film stars do.
After a heady mix of fast cars, casinos and yacht clubs, be sure to relax with a pampering treatment at Thermes Marins, Monte Carlo’s luxury spa overlooking the harbour. Reopening in September after an extensive renovation, the spa – which specialises in traditional thalassotherapy, reflexology and shiatsu – will feature a new cryotherapy chamber, Banya and aromatherapy room and an enhanced sea-water swimming pool. Emerge feeling as glamorous as Princess Grace!
Relax and rejuvenate
