Explore the world with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites

UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit in 2014

As you make your summer travel plans, why not consider taking a trip to a UNESCO World Heritage Site to be inspired by outstanding locations of cultural significance and natural beauty?

Machu Picchu in Peru is an awesome sight to behold

Head to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu in Peru and visit the stunning ancient ruins set in the middle of a mountain forest.  Adventurous travellers can trek the Inca trail, go horse riding in the Sacred Valley or try rafting along the Urubamba River and then relax in the glorious hot springs of Aguas Calientes.

The Great Barrier Reef is an underwater world waiting to be explored.

Book a diving adventure at the world-famous Great Barrier Reef on Australia’s east coast, a World Heritage Site since 1981.  Divers can experience spectacular marine life and colourful corals or maybe even have an unforgettable chance encounter with a whale shark. Stay in Port Douglas and enjoy the laid-back cafés and friendly beach bars.

The awe inspiring Grand Canyon

One of the big-bucket-list attractions in the world is the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.  Visitors can enjoy bird watching or wildlife spotting whilst on a leisurely guided mule ride along the rim.  If you enjoy a rush of adrenaline, join a fast-paced whitewater rafting trip in the canyon. The fainthearted can take things down a notch and raft through the twisting gorge on a smooth water trip.

The Lost city of Petra shows the red and yellow sandstone facade built directly into the rock

Explore the mystical ‘Lost City’ of Petra in Jordan, hidden for centuries until Swiss explorer Burkhardt made his great discovery in 1812.  See the impressive and afterwards spend a night camping out under the stars at Wadi Rum, one of the most stunning desert-scapes in the world, à la Lawrence of Arabia.

The Indian Wildlife has an emphasis on the wild...

India is home to some of the world's most majestic World Heritage Sites, from the timeless beauty of the Taj Mahal to the Manas Santuary, home to a great variety of wildlife including many endangered species, such as the tiger, pygmy hog, Indian rhinoceros and Indian elephant. Take a jeep or water safari to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

Whichever UNESCO World Heritage site you choose to visit, you will be sure to create lifelong memories and unforgettable experiences. These amazing destinations all deliver that wow-factor experience that is the stuff of dreams.
