Blue man group – USA
The Blue Man Group may be a well-known name nowadays, but they didn’t start that way. Back in 1987 the three members of the group, Goldman, Stanton and Wink, started off performing in Central Park, NYC. Today, The Blue Man Group has made television appearances, won multiple awards and is known the world over.
Moulin Rouge – France
Moulin Rouge in Paris is probably the most famous cabaret music hall on this planet. Built in 1889 and renowned for popularising the modern can-can dance, Moulin Rouge can be thanked for the introduction of cabaret all across Europe. Today, the music hall is widely recognized by its iconic red windmill, made famous by the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!, and attracts countless tourists ever year.
Stomp – England
This percussion group from Brighton has made it a long way since its inception back in the summer of 1991. Famed for using everyday, ordinary objects to create music, Stomp’s physical theatre performance is one of the most well-known acts in the world. Since 1991, the group has moved from the small stages of Edinburgh Festival to the bright lights of Broadway and this summer contributed to the musical segment of the closing ceremony of the Olympics.
Nanta – Korea
Nanta, also known as “Cookin” in English, premiered in Seoul back in 1997. The musical offers everything, from acrobatics and magic tricks, to pantomime and audience participation. In 1999 Nanta made its way to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and since then has been staged in 18 countries around the world, making it Korea’s most successful and longest-running show in history!
Star Wars Burlesque – Australia
Star Wars Burlesque: The Empire Strips Back is new for 2012 courtesy of the Ozzies! The show may be brand new but it promises to be a hit, with talk about it on the internet already spreading like wildfire! Expect geeky innuendos and latex-clad characters in this cheeky new show opening this autumn... hardcore Star Wars fans will be keeping an eye out for good deals on flights to Australia!
Cirque du Soleil – Canada
From the beginning of the 90s to the present, Cirque du Soleil has gone from one show in Quebec, Canada, to 19 shows in over 271 cities, all over the world. In fact Cirque has performed on every continent bar Antarctica! Every show consists of a showcase of circus styles from around the world based around its own central theme and storyline and is described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment”.
Siam Niramit – Thailand
Siam Niramit features over 100 performers on a humongous stage putting on one of the largest stage productions in the world! The stage itself has been awarded a Guinness World record and the show displays the history of Thailand’s arts and cultural heritage in one 80 minute sitting. Acclaimed for having some truly spectacular special effects, Siam Niramat has won many awards and promises to be a show you will never forget.
Madame Butterfly – Italy
Madame Butterfly or Madama Butterfly, is arguably the most well known opera around. Though it is performed all over the world by different companies, it was at the world famous La Scala opera house, Milan, where the celebrated opera debuted. Giacoma Puccini, who wrote the opera, actually made five different versions of the opera, and today different variations are performed.
