The Glitz and Glam of Cannes

Next Wednesday, the eyes of the world will descend on to Cannes for the 68th annual 'Festival de Cannes', the most coveted and famous film festival in the world. With the rich and famous frantically planning their respective trips to 'le sud de la France' is it time you follow suit and call 'Action!' on your own glamorous stay?

The scene is set. The audience are taking their seats. The curtain is about to be lifted and the spotlight will focus in on the Cannes Film Festival 2015. The event itself embodies the already beautiful spot on the French riviera, it becomes it's very heartbeat pumping life around it and it dresses itself in the most incredible, sparkly gown imaginable and walks itself down the red carpet. Captivating.

Even without the festival, you can't go far in this city without bumping into some part of film history. This you'll discover yourself upon embarking on a guided walking tour of the city, where you'll come to appreciate the deep-lying connection between Cannes and the 7th art. Take your time exploring the enthralling seaside

After a day of exploring this gorgeous setting, be sure to take advantage of some french cuisine before bee-lining for a local cinema, which screens the opening film of the festival on the same day. You'll also have the opportunity to watch the opening ceremony broadcast live here.

Cin de la plage

Don't miss out on the Cinema de la Plage, a local favourite and open to the public. With a different film screened every night (and even the odd world premiere!) this is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the festival and really buy in to the city's culture. If that's not close enough, it is possible to buy tickets for certain festival screenings if you arrive an hour before, though don't count your chickens. Alternatively, go celebrity hunting in hotel bars or try and blag your way into an exclusive party (stranger things have happened, right?).

Alas, for the most part of this incredible 11 days (it runs from 13th-24th May) us ordinary folk will have to accept that we will be a spectator of this spectator event, with fame, celebrity and VIP-status a mere gate or security guard away.

Quiet on set, we're not done yet! Once you've seen the best of Cannes, why not take a small detour to the equally spectacular Monte Carlo and feel like James Bond as you bet a whole 20 Euros on a single spin of the roulette wheel! And if the sort of action associated with Bond is what you'll be craving after an overdose of glamour, head there for the equally famous Monaco Grand Prix, which conveniently runs from 21st - 24th May (so you'll miss the end of the festival i'm afraid!).

And that's a rap! To stay and take in the end credits, check out our offers to nearby Nice here and plan your very own box office hit!
