Where to spot celebrities in L.A.

No holiday in L.A. is complete without that all-important celebrity spot, and right now, in the post-Oscar hubbub, your chances of a sighting are at their highest. After all, Hollywood’s sun-bleached streets are the home of the A-lister. But once you arrive in this star-studded city, where is the best place to see them?
  1. The glitzy Four Seasons Hotel is where journalists flock to interview actors and actresses, and press conferences are held to announce the release of new movies. A hotspot of celebrity action, staying here is your ticket to an envy-inducing spot.
  2. On an African safari, your best animal sightings will happen around the watering hole. The Ivy on Robertson Boulevard is the Californian equivalent, which you may recognise from films the Bodyguard and Get Shorty. Celebrities may not like to eat, but they do like to be seen, and this is somewhere where that is guaranteed.
  3. An eaterie where the quality of food equals the quality of celebrity clientele is glamorous restaurant Spago, where the likes of Tom Cruise and Cindy Crawford have been spotted enjoying the extensive wine list and cocktail menu. Reservations are a must, so get planning to avoid disappointment.
  4. The earthquake-resistant Chateau Marmont hotel on Sunset Boulevard is an iconic venue of all things rock n roll. Imagine Led Zeppelin driving their motorbikes through the lobby, and the Eagles basing their hit ‘Hotel California’ on it. Still popular with those in the spotlight today, a booking can be hard to come by, so determination is key.
  5. To see the stars closer to the stars, the Sky Bar at West Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel is another favourite of rock bands and Hollywood royalty looking for a discreet night out away from the bustling streets below.
  6. When it comes to shopping, forget Rodeo Drive, where the big labelled brands know how to hide celebrities away in specially-designed changing rooms for a private retail therapy fix. Melrose Avenue, home to hip independent shops, boutiques and antique shops is where you’re more likely to find local film stars shopping for statement furniture and up-and-coming designer clothes.
  7. Mr Chow is a world-famous Chinese restaurant serving delicious Asian dishes to celebrities and visitors alike. A timeless classic for spying faces you may recognise and a hearty meal in one. Bingo!
  8. To enjoy the sun, sand and sea of Santa Monica Beach while peering through your sunglasses for A-listers, the laid-back Shutters On the Beach is the perfect place to start. Gwyneth Paltrow and Tom Hanks are amongst the personalities who visit regularly.
  9. Want to know where the likes of Megan Fox and Jennifer Anniston shop? Designer department store Fred Segal is a new favourite with the modern-day movie heroines. Pop along, keep one eye out for illustrious locals, and who knows, you may come home with a new outfit too.
