South Africa voted top dream destination

South Africa has been voted the number one dream destination by WAYN, the world’s largest travel and lifestyle social networking community. More than 15,300 people voted a holiday in South Africa to be their dream trip, awarding the country with the coveted top spot.

A total of 78,000 votes were counted in this year’s competition, with participants choosing from seven dream destinations. Brazil took second place, closely followed by Dubai. Other countries that were in the running included Fiji, Turkey, India and Indonesia.Table Mountain
“All seven countries and cities nominated were extremely worthy contenders and dream destinations in their own right,” said Jerome Touze, co-founder of WAYN. “The immense popularity of South Africa as a tourist destination has been reinforced by this competition, and interestingly the activity we are seeing correlates with the recent announcement by President Jaco Zuma that the amount of foreign visitors to South Africa has grown by 300 per cent to 13.5 million visitors, 9.2 million of which were tourists.”

The nominated destinations for the competition were selected through a mixture of both market research data and tracking of user engagement on WAYN.com. The social media site then set up the dream destination competitions own microsite, which encouraged users to vote for their dream destination and offered them the chance to win an iPad.Wildlife, South Africa

“We are privileged to live in an incredible country, a land of spectacular wildlife, awe-inspiring adventure and unique heritage and culture,” said Thulani Nzima, chief executive officer of South African Tourism. We are already touched by the hundreds of thousands of friends our destination has made on the WAYN.com platform and we are delighted with this accolade, which we hope will make more people’s dreams of visiting South Africa a reality.”
