K-pop sensation Psy is set to star in the new South Korean tourism adverts from next month.
The Gangnam Style rapper will feature in a new series of tourism adverts aimed at highlighting the best attractions to those considering a holiday in Asia. Starting next month the viral-hit-singer will star in a variety of international promotions for the country, highlighting South Korea’s cuisine, natural attractions, tourist spots and Seoul’s luxury shopping districts, which were the inspiration behind the rapper’s hit song Gangnam Style. Psy will collaborate with the Korean Tourism Organisation to create a series of promotional videos titled “Psy’s Wiki Korea”, an idea which was inspired by the online encyclopedia Wikipedia. The adverts aim to capture the “sentiment of Korean culture” and show South Korea as a key tourist destination. “Psy's fans are all over the world regardless of age or region. Hopefully, our promotional videos will attract worldwide attention,” said Jeon Hyo Sik of the Korean Tourism Organisation. Areas of South Korea that will be mentioned in the promotional videos include Jeju Island, an island off the mainland that is known to many as the honeymoon capital of Korea and Myeong-Dong, the capital city’s busiest shopping destination, which attracts more than one million shoppers to the area every day. Psy will also introduce viewers of the new video series to some of the traditional dishes eaten in South Korea. The singer has also invited his fans to take part in a competition to become his personal chief, in association with Korean food brand Bibigo. The online video competition ends on the 11th may and the new promotional videos are expected to air at the beginning of next month. Image sources: 123
