Paris named best city break destination

The French capital of Paris has beat London to be named the world’s best city break destination. The home of the Eiffel Tower passed London, New York and Rome to place first at this year’s Travellers’ Choice awards.

The City of Love climbed three places from last year, when it was ranked fourth in the world by holidaymakers who had experienced a holiday in France. The title was awarded to Paris based on reviews submitted by members of the TripAdvisor community. Paris also ranked first in the top cities in Europe category, narrowly beating London. Rome, Barcelona and Venice ranked third, fourth and fifth in the same category, respectively.Paris

“Based on insights from millions of travellers from around the world, the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards help identify the most highly rated and loved vacation spots,” said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor.

New York City came in second in the world’s best city break destinations category, followed by London in second and Rome in third. Barcelona, Venice, San Francisco, Florence, Prague and Sydney made up the rest of the top ten. Though Prague only placed ninth, it made significant improvement, moving up nine places, while London moved down two and New York stayed the same.NYC

The Big Apple topped the list of best U.S destinations, followed by San Francisco and Chicago in second and third, respectively. "New York City continues to be an attractive draw for people from all around the world.” Said George Fertitta, NYC & Company’s CEO.” The city's unique energy, excitement and diversity are all reasons why visitors are continually drawn to the five boroughs year after year."
