Get Into Top Gear with an Incredible Self-Drive Adventure

Love him or loathe him, the sacking of Jeremy Clarkson spells the end of an era for Top Gear.

Although rarely taken seriously, Clarkson will be best remembered most for spearheading some of the show's wacky (and sometimes controversial) international challenges which showcased some of the world’s most picturesque driving opportunities.

As such, allow us to showcase a few of the finest self-drive holidays on offer and who knows, maybe you could audition to be the show’s next talisman!

Route 66

A trip to the USA was one of Clarkson & co's more eventful trips, travelling through four states from Florida to Louisiana. However, talk of driving in America just wouldn’t be complete without the most famous highway in the world: Route 66. Our 14 day, self-drive tour will take you from Chicago to the famous city of Los Angeles with plenty of inspiring pit-stops along the way.

Starting in the Windy City, you’ll see the delights of fabulous Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon; Oklahoma’s dust bowl and the Queen of the Ozarks: Springfield. The only challenge about this tour is fitting everything in! From just £499pp, you can experience the Route 66 tour for yourself here, or for an authentic taste of America’s Deep South, why not try America’s Southern Sea Coast Tour from £614pp?

Argentina

One of Top Gear’s most controversial excursions took them to Argentina, where the local beauty unfortunately took a backseat in the episode (I wonder why?). Thankfully, DialAFlight can help you experience the real Argentina, away from the tourist hotspots of Buenos Aires and the Iguazu Falls.

Instead, get rough and ready from the off, with the Northern Argentina Adventure Tour with horse riding, trekking and visits to vineyards, canyons and magical valleys. With a range of stunning scenery, ample activities and plenty of interaction with the locals, you can have the authentic Argentine experience, ending in the lively city of Salta. This unique tour’s deluxe rate starts at £1495pp and includes 8 nights accommodation (with breakfast) and 9 days car rental.

Australia

A trip to Australia was one of the last broadcast on the BBC before Clarkson’s suspension and had the boys getting their hands dirty down under from the off. We can ensure that you too can get stuck in with this Naturally Adventurous tour of Australia’s Nature Coast from just £672pp, though we can’t promise you a supercar to explore in!

Combining plenty of wildlife experiences and relaxation beach spots, you’ll see many memorable sights in just 9 days. Starting in Brisbane, there’ll be reefing opportunities on Hervey Bay (and Lady Elliot Island), before making your way to the largest sand island in the world: Fraser Island, where a whole host of watersports await. On route back to Brisbane, you’ll be able to get up close and personal with local wildlife in-between hang-gliding sessions and fishing in Caloundra.

These fabulous self-drive offers are less controversial than your typical Top Gear adventures, but we’re sure that you’ll feel all the more relaxed for it! And on that bombshell...
