Fly to Thailand to become an elephant owner

The Sarojin hotel, a five-star resort in Khao Lak, Thailand has launched a new package which allows guests to become an elephant owner for a day. The “Elephant Owner for a Day” package offers tourists the chance to spend either half a day or a full day with their own assigned elephant.

The celebrated resort started offering the unique package this month and the new experience has proved very popular. Guests who sign up for the adventure will be able to have a truly hands-on experience with the giant mammals, looking after their wellbeing and even taking a dip with the creatures in a jungle lake.
Elephant Thailand

People taking part in the Elephant Owner for a Day package will be accompanied by professional guides who work at the hotel called mahouts. The mahouts will shadow guests during their experience teaching them the correct way to interact with free-roaming elephants and how to approach them.

Participants will also be taught basic Thai greetings, which the elephants acknowledge, as well as general skin care for the animals and how to bathe and feed them. Lessons on how to identify a healthy elephant are also taught during the day experience, with guests learning how to tell if the elephants have a healthy sleep pattern and good diet.

The Elephant Owner for a Day experience is available seven days a week at the Sarojin resort. Prices for a full-day experience start from THB 2,500, around £50, per person.
