TripAdvisors’s Annual Travellers’ Choice Awards has placed four of Thailand’s Islands at the top of its 10 Best Islands in Asia list.
40 per cent of the country’s islands made it onto the top ten, more than any other country in Asia. Taking the top spot in the “Top 10 Islands – Asia” category was Ko Tao in the Surat Thani Province in Thailand. TripAdvisor noted that Ko Tao’s “white sand beaches sheltered by steep hills" and "300 days of sun per year" made the island one of the most desirable holiday destinations in Asia. The Thai island of Ko Lanta in Krabi took the third spot, popular with tourists looking to scuba dive and observe the exotic marine life and large coral reefs the island has to offer. One of Thailand’s most popular islands Phuket came in sixth. “Phuket offers a rainbow spectrum of spectacular vacation sights from blue lagoons and pink sunsets to orange-robed monks,” commented TripAdvisor. TA KO Samui, on the eastern coast, was the fourth Thai island to make it onto the top ten, coming in seventh place. "You’re on a gorgeous island off the coast of Thailand–it doesn’t get much better than this,” said TripAdvisor about the island. The island of Ko Tao also made it onto the “Top 10 Islands in the World List”, making it the only Asian island to do so. The Thai island landed in 8th place, being beaten by Belize, the U.S Virgin Islands, and French Polynesia. Image sources: 123
