Doha hosts 4th annual Qatar International Food Festival

The fourth annual Qatar International Food Festival has been declared opened after a host of VIP’s gathered for the inauguration of the gastronomic event last week. The festival, organised by the Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Airways, takes place for four days in spring every year.

Among the impressive guest list of dignitaries that attended the event were Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who opened the event, Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of Culture Arts and Heritage, Eng Issa Al-Mohannadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority and Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways. The VIP’s, along with members of the public, gathered at the Museum of Islamic Art to participate in the events and sample the food on offer.

“Qatar Tourism Authority is honoured to have Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani opening the fourth edition of the Qatar International Food Festival and we are proud to stage the event this year in partnership with Qatar Airways,” said Eng Issa Al-Mohannad on the day.

This is the first year the festival has taken place at the Museum of Islamic Art and the new location has provided more space for guests and stages. The main culinary events that took place on the opening day of the festival included demonstrations from Michelin star chefs in the Qatar Airways Cooking Theatre, and food stalls offering 5 star dishes from around the world prepared and served by internationally renowned chefs.

Upon arrival guests at the event were greeted by the sounds of traditional Qatari music played on an oud, and the musical delights carried on through to the evening with an electronic violin performance by Soledad & Annemarie of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
