British Airways’ first flight to Tenerife has sold out just over a week before it is set to take off. The inaugural flight on the 29th March will mark the beginning of British Airways’ new five-day-a-week service to Tenerife.
The new route will become the first service to Tenerife from the UK that offers business class seats and will fly from London Gatwick Airport to Tenerife five times a week. The news of the sell out of the airline’s first flight has been welcomed by Tenerife’s tourism minister Carlos Alonso, who has expressed his delight in the success of the new route.
“The fact that the inaugural flight is already sold out weeks before departure is a very positive sign of how well the new route has been received, and a good indicator of future sales,” said Mr Alonso. “This new service will satisfy the demands of the island’s tourism sector, particularly our 4 and 5 star hotels, as it will appeal to more high end and business British visitors.”
British Airways has teamed up with the Tenerife Tourism Corporation to promote Tenerife and attract the maximum number of travellers to the destination. The two companies have embarked on a joint marketing campaign that includes outdoor and print advertising, social media promotion and PR.
Visitors from the UK make up the largest overseas outbound market for Tenerife, with around 1.6 million Brits travelling to the largest of the seven Canary Islands each year. The inaugural flight is due to take off on Friday 29th March from Gatwick at 7.10 am. The new BA service will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
