Virgin safety video

Best ever airline safety video? Virgin's YouTube smash

Virgin America is rolling out a new safety video which hopes to change the passengers’ attitudes towards in-flight safety announcements on-board. In true Virgin style the airline has produced a big, giltzy musical flight safety video which is bound to get peoples’ attention.

The video makes light of the fact that most passengers don’t pay attention to the safety announcements, which are mandatory before flights. Using an attractive bunch of singers and dancers, as well as cute and endearing child rappers, the new video is set to be a hit in the skies, with well over 1 million views in just two days on YouTube.

The video, which has the tag line “Buckle up to get down”,  is catchy, witty and just a little bit sexy – the perfect recipe for an online hit. However, it is still informative, with a lot of the lyrics throughout the five minute song taken straight from the familiar safety announcements frequent fliers are used to hearing.

Cabin crew members feature as the singers in the new safety film, singing lines such as “turn your electrical devices off as fast as you can, and whatever you do, don’t make me ask you again.” The video also features a rap by a young girl and a man acting as a robot halfway through the song, when mentioning the more serious topics of oxygen masks and life jackets.

There’s no doubt that the video, directed and produced by Jon M. Chu, sets a new bar for airline safety announcements. To promote it further Virgin America are asking social media lovers to submit Instagram videos of their best dance moves using the hashtag #VXsafteydance before the 22 November for a chance to star in the short film.
