Making a splash for another year, the Underwater Festival will bring excitement and inspiration to the Maldives between the 3rd and 9th of April 2016. World Champion freediver Christian Redl will even be on hand to help and reveal how much of an impact this remarkable sport has had on him. ‘Freediving changed completely my life’ says Christian, ‘and the Underwater Festival in the Maldives is where I am able to share what I love the most while being in my element’.
Throughout the days of the event, freediving classes will be run alongside guided expeditions to responsible snorkeling with whale sharks and sea turtles to help integrate guests with the superlative surrounds, bringing responsible messages on the environment to exciting excursions. By night, the LUX*'s passionate experts give presentations and movies with an underwater-theme are screened under the stars.
Sustainability is a big part of the festival, with responsible tourism and education on the subject being a common factor throughout. The LUX* Marine Biology Centre will be on hand as a constant source of information on the local marine life and its preservation. Guests will even have the chance to get involved with the exciting findings of Olive Ridley Project's team and Senior Project Scientist Doc. Jillian Hudgins.
