2013’s Oscar nominated holiday destinations

Those of us stuck for ideas of where to travel this year should look to our favourite films for inspiration. According to research by Hotwire, holiday bookings to Oscar nominated film locations have surged in recent months. So whether you fancy an unexpected journey in New Zealand or an action packed adventure in Istanbul, here are the top destinations for film fanatics around the world!

New Zealand

Home of the hobbit, New Zealand is a great place to start off our Oscar themed journey. Explore the marvellous landscapes that were used as the backdrop in first of the series of Hobbit films and create your very own adventure!

France

Explore the hill town of Gourdon, in Provence, the location where Valjean has his moment of revelation in the blockbuster movie, Les Miserables. This location in France was the only part of the country featured in the film - the rest of the movie was shot in the UK and in studios.

USA

Head to Illinois to witness some of the locations of the film Lincoln. The film, which is up for 12 Oscars, was shot all over the states – the perfect excuse for an all American road trip!

India

If you want to follow the film that played on all of our heartstrings this year then head to Kerala, India. Most of the tear jerking movie Life of Pi was shot in this beautiful part of India, famed for its beautiful beaches and chilled out lifestyle.

Turkey

If laidback is not what you’re looking for then maybe a fast paced action packed holiday in Istanbul is! The background to last year’s installment of Bond, Skyfall, Istanbul is packed with bustling markets and streets that are certain to make you feel like a spy on a mission. Image sources: 13 4 5 6
