| This tour visits Vietnam’s two contrasting main cities – the graceful capital Hanoi and dynamic, bustling Saigon – with special attention given to the country’s culinary delights. We’ve mixed in a Vietnamese cookery lesson along with visits to some of our favourite local restaurants. We also visit major places of interest in each city and majestic Halong Bay for a diverse but relaxing tour. Our superior option stays in the best hotels in Hanoi and Saigon. |
Day 1: Hanoi
Arrive Hanoi and transfer to your centrally located hotel. This evening meet your tour leader and the rest of your group for welcome drinks and a tour briefing before being introduced to the wonders of Vietnamese cuisine at one of the city’s great local restaurants. |
Day 2-3: Hanoi and Halong Bay
Vietnam’s capital is a graceful, stately city. Experience its interesting history, tree-lined boulevards and faded colonial architecture during our city tour. Visit the Ho Chi Minh Quarter and the intriguing Old Quarter, full of historic houses, busy restaurants, and Chinese temples. In the evening, enjoy a performance of the unique art of water puppetry and complete your day by dining at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants. We spend a day visiting the World Heritage listed Halong Bay – enjoy a cruise through this natural wonder with thousands of islands rising out of the water, creating a beautiful landscape.
3 nights in Hanoi at the Sunway Hotel |
Day 4-7: Saigon, Cu Chi & Mekong Delta
This morning we fly to Saigon and begin with an orientation walk, visiting some of the city’s most interesting sites. We then travel to Cholon – the bustling Chinatown district – and the city’s busiest market for a look at the diverse fresh vegetables, herbs, spices and tropical fruits that will be our daily fare during our time in Ho Chi Minh City. The next morning we enjoy a hands-on cooking class with our chef who will explain more about the wonderful flavours of Vietnamese cuisine. Next, we travel to Cu Chi and the amazing tunnel system built by Communist soldiers during the Vietnam War. Finally, our journey takes us to the river system of the Mekong Delta – Vietnam’s most fertile region and the source of a large amount of the country’s fresh food. We celebrate the end of our trip at one of Saigon’s best local restaurants and on day 7, your journey ends with your airport transfer.
3 nights in Saigon at the Oscar Hotel |
